Regulatory Systems. This monthly newsletter also contains
corporate and personnel news and reports about the latest
products for data and application integration, supply-chain
management, intelligent well and field automation systems,
data storage and transmission, and other information technologies
offering strategic advantages to oil and gas companies.

Sample issues are also available at the Zeus Development office,
or the Editor can mail a hardcopy to you or e-mail a .PDF
file to you. Please use past issues as a guide for format,
content and style.

Working with the Editor
The Editor will work closely with industry authors to compose
interesting and informative articles to help upstream professionals
and managers worldwide make the best decisions for their companies.
The Editor may invite potential authors to write and submit
articles based on the editorial calendar and the knowledge
and writing skills of the prospective author. This is usually
done in person, by telephone, or by e-mail. Articles may be
news stories, state-of-the-industry features or case histories.
Features and case histories for Upstream CIO must be submitted
on an exclusive basis for publication.

The Editor will review submissions promptly and inform
authors about a publication decision within a week of receipt.

Unsolicited Articles
Unsolicited, non-commercial articles received by mail, fax
or e-mail will be evaluated by the Editor for newsworthiness,
accuracy, and writing quality and may be edited for length,
returned for major rewriting or rejected as the Editor sees
fit. It is always preferable to contact the Editor by phone
or e-mail to propose your story first and schedule it for
publication according to the Editorial Calendar. News stories
that do not fit into any of the topics for that month according
to the Editorial Calendar may be postponed to a more appropriate
month or included if there is enough space, at the Editor's
discretion.

Special Reports
Special reports may be published from time to time on a particular
theme or topic of interest to IT professionals and managers
in the oil and gas industry. Although these special reports
may have a Sponsor, they will contain objective articles of
a non-commercial nature on that topic. Articles may be submitted
by either the Sponsor or its competitors as long as they do
not promote their respective products or services. State-of-the-industry
features and case histories may quote employees of the Sponsor,
but these must be balanced with quotes or news from others,
including competitors.

Formats
Although articles may be sent as hardcopy by mail or fax,
the Editor prefers that you e-mail the text in Microsoft
Word format. Rich Text Format and WordPerfect are also acceptable.
Omit page formatting and style codes, but do include italics
and bold. Trade or service marks should be identified only
once. Spell out acronyms and units of measure.
Graphics and tables must be separated from the text and
submitted in both hardcopy and electronic format. High resolution
(300 dpi or higher) is required, and color is preferred
to black & white. Graphics should be in IBM format as
*.JPG, *.EPS or *.TIF files, preferably in Quark (preferred)
or Adobe Illustrator files.

Deadlines
Upstream CIO publishes an annual editorial calendar outlining
special topics to be covered. Articles may be held for publication
until the issue on a particular topic. Deadline for submitting
an article to the Editor for a particular issue is the 15th
of the month prior to publication. For example, the deadline
for the June issue would be May 15. Be sure to obtain approval
from the company prior to submission. Articles may be embargoed
until a certain date for confidentiality.

Copyright
Zeus Development Corporation will hold copyright to all features
and case histories submitted, but not press releases. Technical
papers presented at conferences or published in proceedings
must be rewritten according to Upstream CIO style guidelines.
By submitting a feature or case history article, authors agree
to give Zeus Development Corporation the right to publish
it on the Zeus Development web site. Authors accept full responsibility
for obtaining rights to photos or illustrations submitted
in support of their articles. Where photo credits are required,
authors should indicate the method of attribution.
